Malasia: Muse effects culture change

British eletro-rock band Muse have done the seemingly impossible: they have made Malaysians do something early.

Malaysians are famous for lots of things: innovative and creative thinking, buildings of technical excellence, a vibrant and generally good (but largely hidden) jazz and folk music scene and always being late. Oh, and always doing everything at the last minute.

Things are so bad that even senior police officers have criticised the fact that, when an amnesty for traffic fines was announced, no one went to pay until the last day - and then complained that there were not enough desks open despite the fact that the desks had had nothing to do for days previously.

But something has changed! Muse, often described as "The Best Live Band in the World" are playing in KL. Not some pokey little club - nor even the 2500 capacity clubs in the Golden Triangle but the country's second biggest venue, The National Stadium, right in the heart of the city. Capacity: 10,000, the same as Wembley Arena.

And, for the first time that we can think of, it's sold out weeks before the event.

The National Stadium hosts some pretty big events - but sell outs are almost unheard of. And anyone wanting a ticket can usually just turn up at the gate on the night and have pretty much the pick of places to sit.

But not this time: Muse have made such an impact in Malaysia that many who saw them in Singapore in January are going back to see them again. And tickets sold out within days of being released.

Rats. We were looking forward to that gig. We should have been more English about it and raced to get the tickets as soon as they were announced.

But Muse should be very pleased: they have had an effect on the culture of an entire nation (which, incidentally, we are constantly told is obsessed with R&B - but from what we see, that's actually not many but they are vocal) and made them do something early. Can this change be maintained?

Los malayos son famosos por muchas cosas: por su pensamiento innovador y creativo, por sus edificios de excelencia técnica, por una vibrante y por lo general buena (aunque desconocida) música jazz y folk, y por hacer todo en el último momento.

Las cosas están tan mal que incluso los oficiales de policía criticaron el hecho de que, cuando se anunció una amnistía por las multas de tráfico, nadie fue a pagar hasta el último día -y luego se quejaron de que no había suficientes ventanillas abiertas, a pesar del hecho de que las ventanillas no habían tenido nada que hacer durante días anteriormente.

Pero algo ha cambiado! Muse, a menudo descritos como "la mejor banda en directo del mundo", tocarán en KL. No en un pequeño club cutre -ni siquiera en los clubs con capacidad para 2500 personas del Golden Triangle, sino en el segundo sitio más grande del país. El Estadio Nacional alberga algunos eventos bastante importantes -pero los sell outs son casi desconocidos. Y cualquiera que quiera una entrada puede, normalmente, aparecer en taquilla la misma noche y pillar un buen sitio para sentarse.

Pero no esta vez: Muse han causado tal impacto en Malasia que muchos de los que les vieron en Singapur en enero volverán a verles. Y las entradas se agotaron días antes de salir a la venta.

Ratas. Tenemos muchas ganas de este concierto. Deberíamos haber sido más ingleses y haber corrido a por las entradas tan pronto como fueron anunciadas.

Pero Muse deberían estar encantados: han tenido un gran efecto en la cultura de un país entero (que, por cierto, está obsesionado con el R&B), y han conseguido que hagan algo pronto. Puede mantenerse este cambio?

dios mio siq ue les ha impactado es B&H la verdad porque si dice que siempre ha habido localidades en ese estadio en todos los conciertos y ahora resulta que al poco de ponerlas a la venta ya se han agitado... tela se han enamorado de MUSE!!


la verdad es que poko a poko se da uno mas cuenta de que MUSE ya ha pasado a la siguiente pantalla, me alegro por elos al final tantos años de curro sirven para algo... mientras que no se les suba y cmabien me aprece genialq ue llenen estadios enteros a rebentar!
